A game is pinned to the ruleset it starts under. A later
rules update ships as a new version and never rewrites a game in progress.
Open — everyone knows who it is. The Dark Arts hand and
path progress stay private. (A hidden-allegiance mode is SHELVED by
Aaron's 2026-08-08 ruling: the printed rules give the Dark Arts player
their own visible turn and pawns, so true concealment needs a ruleset
that supports it. The engine keeps full support for that day.)
Spectators normally see public information only. Open
spectating shows them the full public board and every seated player has
to agree to it before the game starts.
